Multi-sensorial Approach for Patients with Severe Memory Loss

Improve treatment of patients who have severe cognitive disorders by evoking the senses

Context

Patients who have serious cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, lose their memories little by little. We now know that sensory exercises led by nurses can help these patients and alleviate their stress levels.

Project

The project entails implementing Snoezelen techniques within the Alzheimer Unit of the Mental Health and Psychiatry Department. Watching bubbles rising in a luminous column, smelling scents that evoke pleasant memories, manipulating optic fibers, and playing with beams of light are all stimulating activities and also beneficial for brain exercise and well-being.
