A Safe Room for Patients in Severe Psychiatric Crisis

Create a room adapted for patients in the midst of severe psychiatric decompensation, for their safety and that of healthcare providers.

Context

In the middle of the Mental Development Psychiatric Unit (UPDM for its initials in French), the intensive care room is cramped (6.7 m2) and lacking in terms of security features. A patient in a state of crisis can therefore be a danger to themselves as well as to healthcare providers. It is crucial to be able to comfortably house such a patient in a safe room so that they do not hurt themselves, and a room large enough that they can walk around without feeling hemmed in.

Project

The project thus entails creating a suitable room for patients in psychiatric intensive care. Near the shower and toilet area, accessible exclusively in the presence of healthcare providers to avoid all risks of injury or acts of self-harm, this room should be furnished with windows in the interior walls to allow healthcare providers to locate the patient before entering the room. The patient in decompensation should be cared for there in total safety.
